2025 Landscape Blanco White

Our new southern vineyard in the Coal River Valley includes a small block of Viognier, and as a relatively unusual variety for Tasmania, we were excited to have it in the winery for the first time. It was important to harvest this block on the earlier side, targeting freshness and delicacy while avoiding any overt and oily characters. The juice was fermented at cool temperatures until dry, producing a delicately framed wine, with light floral notes. The inclusion of Chardonnay brought body and texture to the blend while Pinot Gris delivered spice and aromatics. The result is a harmonious and beautifully textured wine, perfect for summertime drinking.

'The 2025 Landscape Blanco White represents the first crop of fruit from the newly acquired vineyard in Coal River Valley and comprises a blend of 60% Viognier, 20% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Gris. Aromatically, of course, the Viognier rides high on this wine, with notes of apricot blossom and green apple. The fruit was intentionally harvested early in order to avoid the native unctuousness that is endemic to the Viognier grape. In the mouth, the wine is textural and rich, long and piercing. I like it so much. The Chardonnay and Pinot Gris harness or restrict the Viognier, and yet the irrepressible nature of Viognier exudes through the wine. This is a ripping little wine. It is interesting and great. 12.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.'
