Wonder in the Making
In Episode 3 of Wonder in the Making, we go behind the scenes to find out more about the design and construction decisions of the Cellar Door & Restaurant.
Wonder in the Making: Episode 3 — Behind the Design
Designed by Kerry Hill Architects with Edwards + Simpson, the building draws on the old stone buildings found around Tasmania, then plans and details them with a contemporary hand. The aim was architecture that feels timeless and rooted in its place, connecting you to the Tamar Valley, the river and the surrounding bushland from the moment you arrive.
Two buildings share one roofline material. The winery is a working production space, and its materials say so. The Cellar Door & Restaurant is about hospitality, which allowed a richer, more tactile palette. Hear how those decisions were made, and why the shed form suited the Tamar Valley.
"Every person that's come into contact with this project has really put an exceptional level of care into their own work, because they can feel they're working on something very special." - Lucas Edwards, Director at Summit Project Management.
